Reagan Baine works for a special forces unit of the US Army. Her first kill was at the tender age of eighteen when she took a contract on her boyfriend, who had turned out to be a serial killer half werewolf, half vampire.
When the object of her current manhunt discovers that she’s after him, he draws her back to Detroit Michigan, where she will have to face her past again, but this time she won’t be alone.
Though she has worked for years to distance herself from relationships, she finds that she is drawn to the two men escorting her back home. And they aren’t about to let her go without a fight.
With a vicious arms dealer on her trail, she finds herself having to learn to trust the monsters she’s spent years fighting and discover that opening her heart again may not be as painful as she’d always believed it would be.
Fun! I really enjoyed this story.
When I read the blurb, I was immediately attracted with the bad-ass heroine. Being a killer was totally original and I am always going for it. I must admit that I am a bit tired of the sweet vanilla “almost” virgin woman who discover that she is a slut at heart or discover all of a sudden that she can have multiple orgasms. Booooooooooring!
Reagan was definitely the opposite of this kind of heroine that I find way too often. From the first lines, I was compelled to know more about her.
I really enjoy characters that have spunk but a big heart. In fact, thinking about it, I love males the same way: a bit grumpy bears with a big protective heart. Add to that some humor and clumsy situations, a nice plot and hot scenes and I am in heaven.
Now, talking about hot scenes. I did not find much in this story to be honest. They were okay but for a MMF story, the only gay touch I found was one male touching the arm of the other. The sex revolved around the heroine and I did not find MM interaction in this story. I was waiting for it but did not get it. Both characters could have been straight from my perspective. This said, it did not change much the story but if you are waiting for hot male sex, you won’t find any.
I am not generally fond of writing at the first person. And this book was. I generally miss the point of view of each main characters and especially males. I fall in love way quicker when I can read their POV. So this is probably why I did not fell completely for the males. They were totally lovable but the author did not explore who they were and why they fell so hard for her. Something a bit missing there.
But it was fun to read her. I really loved her personality as I already said and this is why I liked this story so much. I liked also the writing. It was easy and fast. It had the potential to be a great story if the author took the time to develop the male characters and the romance between all of them. It was a bit too much “done deal at first sight” for me. I also found a couple of over the top situations but I went with the flow and it was easy to move on. l will not talk about them because it would spoil the story but you will know what I am talking about if you read this story that I genuinely recommend.
When I read the last line, I had a smile on my face and a taste to read another Dakota Rebel story. Reagan is book 2.0 of this series. Book 1.0 is about her gay vampire brother, Mitch… which I hope you’ll find more MM sex interaction eh? 😛
When mortal Bounty Hunter, Mitch Baine, decides to spend one night breaking all the rules with a sexy masked vampire, he has no idea that the stranger is Jarrod Axlerod, lead singer of the famous band Heartstrings, or that he will be contracted to kill Jarrod the very next day. Mitch has been trained to believe that the only good vampire is a dead on—a lesson cemented into his brain after years of killing them on contract for the US Army. But his feelings toward the creatures begin to change after spending an incredible night at the masked ball. When he receives his newest contract, he is horrified to see that the vampire he has been hired to kill is none other than Jarrod Axlerod, the sexy vampire he has just broken every one of his personal rules with.
