Sometimes I am crossing the path of some authors on twitter and everything can happen. I was lucky enough to chit chat with Portia Da Costa.

It is just impossible to do not know Portia Da Costa in the erotic romance world. She wrote for Harlequin, Black Lace, Samhain Publishing, Carina Press, Total-E-Bound and other publishers. She also self publishes her work and contributes to short story anthologies.

I generally avoid short novellas. Now, I think I’m gonna change my mind. Do not get me wrong, I am still a bit frustrating to end a story after 50 pages but I will say that depending on the author’s talent, the frustration may have different levels. ha!

I enjoyed very much Power of Three.

And since I hate generic book review, I will give you many reasons to read this short story.

First, I could totally picture me in the heroine’s shoes using a binocular and lurking the other cabins. I am a voyeur. so what? That would be totally something I would do out of boring. Okay. now people will think that I have a binocular next to me and I use it right about now. nope. I have none in my house… but this is something that I could do.

So if I heard people making love and scream their orgasms, there is no doubt in my mind that I will want to see. Therefore, this story was totally credible for me.

I think that it could also be a phantasm of me to find out that I have a couple of gay people doing it with an open window. Of course, yummy muscles gay guys but I would not mind to see beautiful model alike girls too… sigh… I am a voyeur and I have no shame to confess it! lol

So this story was not only a voyeur thing. What started as a fun invitation turned into a love story and who would not love this kind of ending in real life? me me me!!!!

Since it is a short story, characters and plot were not as developed as a long novel but I liked that the heroine was not a whining girl. Just an ordinary woman daring to put in reality a phantasm. The men were also very lovable but I would have liked to know them a bit better.

So yes. I recommend to read this short menage story and now I have to check the huge list of published stories Portia Da Costa has and see if there is any more menage that I can read!

note: this book has 3 different covers but this one is my favorite. 😉

It’s no fun being dumped almost at the altar, but newly not engaged Laurie decides to make the best of things and enjoy her honeymoon at an exotic Caribbean resort all on her own. The plan is to lie in the sun, read a book, do a bit of birdwatching and exploring… anything to take her mind off her rat of an ex fiance and the bimbo he got pregnant.

But it’s not easy to forget about love and sex when everyone around her at the resort is getting in on. Pretty soon, she’s using her binoculars to spy on creatures a bit higher up the evolutionary scale – the hot threesome in one of the adjacent cabanas, and the gorgeously hunky gay couple who are also staying just across the courtyard.

These delicious men – Denny and Ed – especially fire her senses and make her forget her romantic woes, and when she realises that they’re watching her while she’s watching them, what else is a girl to do but accept the invitation of a lifetime, and become part of a threesome herself?

But what if her luscious faux honeymoon menage is only the beginning of better and hotter things to come?

About the author

Portia Da Costa is a British author who has lived and worked in West Yorkshire, in the north of England, all her life. She began her writing career almost by mistake, when she was asked to write a story for an artist friend to illustrate. A librarian at the time, and a voracious reader since childhood, Portia had never considered becoming an author, but not one to shun a challenge, she took up her pen and wrote her first-ever piece of fiction, a melodramatic tale of the doomed romance between a mortal woman and an unusually handsome and nondecrepit zombie. The story was rubbish, of course, but Portia enjoyed the creative process so much that she resolved to learn how to write properly.

After a number of years writing purely for pleasure, Portia’s first published   story appeared in 1991, and was about a sexy ghost this time. Since then, she’s   gone on to write well over a hundred stories for magazines and anthologies, and she’s also produced almost thirty novels across a variety of genres. Although she’s written gentler tales in her time, she’s known best of all for her sizzling-hot erotic romances and erotica, mainly for Virgin Black Lace, but also for a variety of imprints including Samhain, Total-E-Bound and Ellora’s Cave.

Chance of a Lifetime, a November 2008 SPICE Brief, was Portia’s first-ever work for Harlequin Books and represents the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. Her very first attempts at writing   for publication were category-length semisweet romances targeted at Mills & Boon. None of these early efforts was successful, but Portia’s deep yearning to write for the world’s best-known romance publisher has never waned. She has subsequently had six Spice Briefs published, with four more in the pipeline. Her first full length historical erotic romance for Harlequin Spice, the Victorian set In The Flesh, is published in January 2012, with a linked book to follow.

Portia is a full-time author and lives in a small, typically Yorkshire town with her husband of many, many years, and also the three beautiful cats they both adore. When she’s not writing, she likes to read, just generally chill out and watch television. A lot of television. She also loves to spend time online with cyber friends at her favorite writers’ message boards and on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Among her other interests are art, fashion and popular science, and she also shares her husband’s passion for the military history of World War Two.
