My rating: 5 stars

Unique. How can I describe better Laura Tolomei‘s work other than unique. I was not quite certain to read The Demon Waiter or even appreciate it. I am mostly into MMF or MFM, a woman must be included in the menage. I am not especially fond of Dark Fantasy or Horror as well. But I was curious and on many levels: to read a book with the main focus being a m/m, to read something different and to just read Laura Tolomei.

First I would like to mention that this story DO have some MMF and MF intercourse so it is not a m/m/m only as mentioned in the blurbs. I would certainly say that m/m is definitely dominant but readers will find some hot m/f action too. So that was a surprise, a good one since I was not expecting it.

My first reaction when I started reading the first pages of the book was about the style. It was as if it was the main character’s diary. The style was kinda narrative although it was not. The *I* is not used but the way it is written, it really looks like it is the character who is speaking all along. Then, my second reaction was OMG, who is this guy? Is he real? If he is, I hope to do not meet him ever in real life! Then I got hooked. plain and simple.

Laurent is a smart charismatic bisexual guy, knows how to use his handsomeness, extremely ambitious, selfish and has huge commitment issues. So he uses people and does not care if he hurts or not as long as his pleasures and ambitions are satisfied. He does not lie, promise anything but rather flee as a coward. His focus is himself and he remains with his lovers if they do not have or show any feelings and remain at his entire disposal for sex.

Wow. Not the type of character that we can really fall in love with n’est-ce-pas? But you are wrong. dead wrong.

Laurent is French. I am french Canadian. He lived in Montreal. I lived in Montreal. So of course that was an extra intensive for me to read this story. Not that I find the french character better or worse but it is kinda like you are in a foreign country, you hear someone speaking your language, then for some weird reason, you are bond to communicate with this person even if in your own country, chances would be that you would completely ignore this person. The funny thing about French in Literature is that they are portrayed as great lovers, master of sweet talking love words, extremely seductive and handsome. Stereotypes. So funny. I will not debate on this. Lets say that some rumors have some roots, somewhere but the French nationality is just a myth although I have been told that the accent is pretty sexy. As a french, I find Italian and Greek very sexy. Just a matter of perspective I guess.

Laurent could be the great looking guy who cross the street and you make a double turn to see more of him. The very good looking guy that every woman or man fantasize to tame and get as a permanent lover. The extreme sensual guy that you know that you will get multiple orgasms because he just knows what to do, when to do it and with what. The player that will put you on your knees, begging for more, not knowing if you will ever get it because security and ordinary are not part of his vocabulary but extreme and dangerous instead. A simple look from him and our world is just upside down. Every single one of us met this kind of man at least one time in our life. The kind of guy that gives us little butterflies in your stomach, waiting that the guy will notice us and when he does, ready to give him whatever he asks for how long he asks… Yeah! THAT guy! You know what or who I am talking about, right? … Yes. I thought so.

Along the way, Laura Tolomei throw us into a paranormal story. Laurent becomes obsessed with Demons. At that point, you need to have an open mind. It becomes strange, dark, bloody and we enter into another dimension of sex at its purest. The Demon Waiter is not a romance at all but a dark fantasy horror novel so be prepared to do not read a Cinderella story at all!

Of course I will not spoil the end of this story! Lets say that if you are a bit tired of the traditional menage or m/m erotica, you have to read this book. Laura Tolomei mentioned that she wrote this story with Halloween in mind. The spirit is 100% there, no doubt about it!

Laura Tolomei should be on everyone’s m/m lover bookcase. Her characters are very real and no matter if her imagination changed from hunting the demons to searching for the soul mate, from dark fantasy and horror to a bit more romance, her work will not leave you indifferent because each of her books are just like the human being behind the author’s name… unique!

It wasn’t till he took me to his bed and made love to me, for the first time—no competition between us, no unspoken challenge, no master-slave, no blood, no death, nothing but intense emotions overwhelming me with the sheer power of his feelings, a sea so deep, a tide so strong I thought I’d drown as he took me face up, raising my legs above his shoulders and plunging deep before preying on my mouth, too, in a never-ending kiss that took my breath, not to mention my resolve, away—that in spite of everything, I gave him what he wanted most, my soul in its entirety, for I knew right there and then I was sealing my destiny forever.

OMG!!!! This is the BEST BEST review EVER!!!! Thank you, thank you Mary for your great words and the enthusiasm behind them! And the rating…I’m just speechless. And the best part is that it sounds convincing to you, a French who lives in Canada, so makes me extra glad you read it and could give your informed prospective about it. Thanks also because I know it isn’t your first choice of gender! Thank you, thank you…
